Ronaldo got a serious crash with his Ferrari

Cristiano Ronaldo was driving the sports car through a tunnel beneath the runways when he smashed into a barrier.

Edwin Van der Sar was following in his Bentley, but the Dutch keeper was not involved in the crash.

It was really "fortunate" that Ronaldo was not injured, said pc Nigel Snell.

The footballer's red Ferrari was badly damaged in the crash, with the front edge of the vehicle completely demolished. One of the wheels came off, ending up about 200 yards behind where the vehicle came to rest.

Manchester United confirmed that Ronaldo was not hurt. A club spokesman said: "He was involved in an accident this morning. No others car were involved."

"He's fine and is training as normal with the team this morning."

The Portuguese winger, who played on Wednesday night for United, has started on the bench against Derby County. 

Ronaldo is due to play for United against Chelsea FC on Sunday.

Derby County 1 - 0 United

Manchester United had lost the 1st semi-final against Derby County, after a brilliant goal from Commons in the 30th minute of the first-time.

Carlos Tevez, who returned to United's starting line-up after a new trip to his native Argentina, was particulary ineffective and, for the most part, Derby looked comfortably with their lead.

United did improve before the end, with Cristiano Ronaldo dragging one shot wire before firing in a free-kick that fizzed just the wrong side of Carroll's post.

United will still be favourites to overturn their single-goal deficit in the second leg to Old Trafford on 20 January.

But a more immediate concern for Alex Ferguson is the weekend visit of Luiz Felipe Scolari's side, and he will know a significant improvement on his performance is needed.

Southampton 0 - 3 United: "The Devil wears blue"

Manchester United got an important triumph at St. Mary's Stadium, after a victory over Southampton with the goals from Welbeck, Nani and Gibson.

The Devils beat The Saints 3-0 on the South Coast on Sunday to set up an FA Cup fourth round clash with Tottenham Hotspurs at Old Trafford.

Goals from Danny Welbeck, Nani and Gibson sealed a win against Southampton side reduced to 10-man after only 36 minutes.

Michael Carrick and Anderson took charge in the centre of midfield, while the recent back four remained uncharged. (Rio Ferdinand is injured and Patrice Evra suspended).

Dimitar Berbatov has played a very good game, because of a good job and excellent passes to his team-mates.

The Reds could have won by many more goals, with United's dominance. But Sir Alex will have a few complaints after this performance, another great clean sheet by Van der Sar, three goals and a safe passage to the fourth round. Now, bring on Spurs!

United signs Serbian Duo

Sir. Alex Ferguson is delighted to have agreed the signings of two serbian players - winger Zoran Tosic and striker Adem Ljajic - from Partizan Belgrade.

Zoran Tosic joins United with immediate effect and will wear the number 14 shirt and Ljajic will remain with Partizan for 2009.

Sir. Alex said of Tosic (pictured above right): "He's a young wide left player. We like wide players at this club. We've been watching him for over a year and he's now a regular in the Serbian National Team. Hopefully he does well here."

"We'll give him time. He's not played since December 10 so he'll need time to adjust and get used to the tempo of our game and also the training. Once he's done that, I think he could play a part this season."

Finally, Alex Ferguson said about the transfer's window: "That's the end of the transfer business for Manchester United this season. There definitely won't be anything else in January."

Stoke 0 - 1 United

United left it late before securing a valuable victory against 10-man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

The Club World Cup Winners enjoyed long spells of possession and had to wait until the 83rd minute for the breakthrough when Carlos Tevez found the net from close range.

United were forced to make a late change with Jonny Evans replacing Rio Ferdinand who injured his back in the warm-up. He is expected to be out for around 10 days and they struggled to get their game together in the first half.

 The Alex Ferguson's team pushed forward at the start of the second half and Tevez cut inside but Sorensen turned his effort around the post after 47 minutes.

Carlos Tevez scored his only second league goal of the campaign and he helped to United team to following up in the Premierleague.

LDU Quito 0 - 1 United

Wayne Rooney clinched a victory for Manchester United in the Club World Cup final with a late goal against LDU Quito after Vidic was sent off.

United's hopes were hit when Vidic saw red card after 49 minutes for lashing out with an elbow at Claudio Bieler. But Rooney won it with a neat finish into the bottom corner on 73 minutes.

United has becoming the first English Club to win the global event in its current format.

Nemanja Vidic will not play against Internazionale Milan in the first leg of the Champions League in February.

Edwin Van der Sar has done really well and get a various saves to obtain the title of WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Earlier on Sunday, Gamba Osaka had got a victory over Mexican team Pachuca 1-0 and the Japanese team got the third place.

Ferguson feels for fellow bosses

Sir Alex Ferguson is convinced football management is becoming a precarious occupation with each passing year.

After bringing 10 Premier League titles and two European Cups to Old Trafford during an incredible 22-year reign, Ferguson need have no concern about losing his job.

At 66, the United boss has earned the right to end his tenure at a time of his choosing.

"It is a very precarious industry," said Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Very few managers last more than three or four years with a club nowadays and the lifespan of a manager is getting shorter and shorter."

"I count myself fortunate to spend so long at one club."
