Everton 1 - 1 United

United had dominated the first 45 minutes of the Barclays Premier League clash with a controlled and confident display, to the point that Everton were chasing shadows.

United held a deserved lead through Darren Fletcher at the break, but in the second period Everton stormed back with a physical performance, with Fellaini heading the equalizer.

Sir Alex Ferguson was able to make five changes to the United side that outclassed Celtic in the UCL midweek.

Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra were back from injury, while Ryan Giggs return as Captain. Wes Brown and Ji-Sung Park were also called.

Wayne Rooney was in search of his 100th career goal against his former club, but he missed an opportunity seven minutes before half-time when he saw a close-range effort scrambled wide by Joseph Yobo.

It was the final serious action of a pulsating encounter, that ended with Everton more satisfied with the result than United.

Rio Ferdinand (groin) and Patrice Evra (hamstring) should return, while Michael Carrick is expected to comeback to Wednesday.

Dimitar Berbatov (hip) and Cristiano Ronaldo (knee) have overcome knocks, while Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves (both knee) are still missing.

"For obvious reasons, Saturday is a big game for me. But it wouldn't really matter if it was my first or my 100th, it would still be really sweet."

Rio Ferdinand is the only remaining player to have been on the field for every minute of every one of United's premier league matches this season. 

Wayne Rooney, who scored nine goals in his last seven games for club and country and five in five appearances for United, needs one more to total 100 club goals (Everton and Manchester United)

Rooney will be playing the day after his 23rd birthday. 

The last match between these two teams was 0 - 1 for  United on 15 September 2007 and the only goal was done by Vida at 83 minute.

Red's Interview with Wayne Rooney

Will the fact it's your birthday weekend make Everton away any more special?

Not really. Going to Everton to myself is something I look forward to at the start of every season. I can't wait for it to come around. It's the day after my birthday this year and I'm sure it will be a nice present if I can score and we can win.

We take it your birthday celebration will be on hold until after the match...

Yes! I'll be in a hotel with the team on my birthday (Friday) so I won't see any of my family until Saturday.

Will there be mixed feelings for your family if you score against Everton?

Yes, I'm sure there will be. Most of my family support Everton and they go to all the games so I'm sure they'll want a score draw with me scoring - I think that would be a perfect result for my family. But I'm looking to try and get the victory for United which is important to us now we're in a good run of form. We need to continue that.

Will Everton's poor run make them more dangerous, like a wounded animal?

No, I think it's the same whenever we go there. The Everton fans are always really up for the game and my going back there gives them extra incentive to get behind their team. Their players work really hard and put a lot of pressure on you when you've got the ball. We have to just play our game and hopefully be good enough to win.

Berbatov display thrills Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson hailed Berbatov after scoring two goals in the UCL win over Celtic.

"It was fantastic, a marvellous performance from Dimitar berbatov again," said Ferguson. "He's bringing that composure to the final third of the field.

Berbatov's developing is run not only Wayne Rooney, but also with Carlos Tevez.

"The other players are beginning to understand what type of player he is," added Alex Ferguson. He has got five goals for us already and that is a terrific contribution.

"I was really pleased with our performance. It was a really bad night for Celtic to get us and a good night for us."

Ferguson was also pleased with another goal from Rooney to continue his recent hot streak that has resulted in him scoring nine times in seven games for United and his country.

"He has got a natural energy and sometimes he uses it in a wrong way, expending it all over the pitch, but that is a part of his enjoyment."

United 3 - 0 Celtic, in the UCL's group E

Dimitar berbatov looked offside when he flicked home a close-range finish to put United ahead after 30 minutes.

And there were similar doubts about his second, turned in on the rebound after Celtic keeper Artur Boruc could not hold Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick.

Wayne Rooney emphasised the gulf in class between the sides with a 20-yard shot on the turn with 14 minutes left.

United are now sitting pretty at the top of group E and on course to qualify for the knockout stages, but Villarreal's win against Aalborg leaves Celtic with an uphill task to emerge from the group phase. 

United lost Rio Ferdinand with a groin injury, but Ronaldo kept his place despite speculation that he might be rested and he played his part in a vibrant first-half display from Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Ferguson made a double change over the hour, sending on Carlos Tevez and Wes Brown for Berbatov and Gary Neville. 

And the argentine got his chance to score with a 25-yard shot that was deflected just inches wide.

It was a fitting flourish to another outstanding display by Rooney as United continue to move ominously into top gear.

Patrice Evra will not be to face Celtic

United's Patrice Evra will miss Tuesday Champions league clash against Celtic with a hamstring injury.

John O'Shea is set to come in, but Cristiano Ronaldo may be rested. United will have Carlos Tevez and Anderson back from international duty, although Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves are still missing.

And Sir Alex Ferguson may rest Ronaldo as he wants him to fully recover from a summer ankle operation.

Evra tweaked a hamstring during Saturday's win over West Bromich Albion.

United 4 - 0 West Brom

Wayne Rooney sparked United into life against West Brom as the Champions moved up to fourth in the Premier League table.

The visitors battled hard early on while Rooney had an effort disallowed. But the in-form England international cut inside Ryan Donk to fire a superb opener on 55 minutes before setting up Cristiano Ronaldo for a simple second. 

Dimitar Bebatov added a casual third after poor Baggies defending before Rooney set up Nani to slide in late on.

Ronaldo slipped a neat pass in for Rooney who muscled in front of a defender and delayed his shot before scooping the ball past Scott Carson.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had to make a change after 35 minutes, bringing on John O'Shea for Patrice Evra, The Frenchman seemingly having collected a knock.

Dimitar berbatov made no mistake to score when the breakthough finally came in the 55th minute. 

Ferguson sent Gary Neville on for Rafael Da Silva in the 65th minute with the young brazilian fading after a strong first half.

Berbatov had made his first goal in this Premier League.
